Support Sacramento Area Museums During the BIG Day of Giving on May 5!

Interested and involved community members are encouraged to support their favorite Sacramento area museums and/or popular destinations during the BIG Day of Giving on Tuesday, May 5, 2015.  Presented by GiveLocalNow, Sacramento Region Community Foundation, Placer Community Foundation and Yolo Community Foundation, the BIG Day of Giving is a local initiative designed to increase philanthropy in the Greater Sacramento region.  The fundraising effort will take place from midnight to midnight on that one special day. For those 24 hours, online donations will be accepted through www.bigdayofgiving.org with a goal to inspire and unite our community in supporting hundreds of local nonprofits.

 To add extra excitement, a number of Sacramento Association of Museum (SAM) members are offering special activities and/or incentives that day, a few of which include the following:
  • The California Museum – Generous donors who contribute $100 or more to The California Museum will receive a one-year Explorer level membership with reciprocal admission benefits at more than 800 institutions across North America through Time Travelers and NARM (a $120 value);
  • California State Railroad Museum – Anyone who donates $25 or more to the California State Railroad Museum Foundation will receive two popular excursion train rides good for that same day (May 5, 2015) at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. only or any other weekend departure (hourly from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) during the month of May (value of up to $24);
  • Sojourner Truth Multicultural Museum – Working in collaboration with seven other African American non-profit groups to raise awareness about these groups and our contributions to the city of Sacramento, the community is encouraged to give to the group as a collective (the funds will be divided equally) or give individually.  Also, they will host a mixer and have a jazz artist performing on-site at the Museum (2251 Florin Road) from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
