American River Conservancy & Mother Lode River Center Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day

American River Conservancy & Mother Lode River Center Celebrate National Get Outdoors Day

National Get Outdoors (GO) Day celebrates America’s Great Outdoors and encourages youth and their families to spend time outside, exploring the natural world. This year, Mother Lode River Center and the American River Conservancy team up on Sunday, June 9th, to promote outdoor recreation in the greater Sacramento region.

National GO Day helps to combat the effects of indoor, inactive lifestyles which are fueling the nation’s obesity epidemic and threatening the health of future generations. It is an opportunity to influence lifestyles, especially among youth, in ways that emphasize physical, mental and other benefits derived from outdoor recreation in the Great Outdoors.

National Get Outdoors Day is celebrated throughout the country at over 130 sites. Locally, the Coloma-Lotus Valley plays host to its own celebration of the event on Sunday, June 9th.

In 2004, the American River Conservancy embarked on a campaign to build the first multi-use recreational trail system along the South Fork American River. Over the past decade with support from the local community and public agencies, ARC has preserved nearly 3,000 thousand of acres of open space and built over 20 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails near the South Fork.

On Sunday, June 9th, the American River Conservancy hosts the tenth annual American River TrailFest at Earthtrek Expeditions in Lotus, CA. TrailFest is a family-friendly event that features live music, BBQ dinner, microbreweries and local wineries, live and silent auctions, and Kids’ Zone activity tent. This year, the event features a line-up of talented musicians headlined by local favorites, The Rusty Buckets.
