Girls D-IV Section Finals: (1) Modesto Christian, (3) Calaveras

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Modesto Christian Crusaders defeated Calaveras 71-52 to win the Girls D-IV Sac-Joaquin Section Title at Power Balance Pavilion Saturday afternoon.

The victory Gives the Crusaders back to back Section Championships, including five Titles in the past six years.

Modesto Christian was led by Charise Holloway who scored 16 points and grabbed a game high 22 rebounds. Nikki Gleason led Calaveras with 21 points.

 

Missing Placerville woman found dead

PLACERVILLE, CA - Friday, searchers located the body of a missing Placerville woman last seen Wednesday evening.

El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Lt. Bryan Golmitz said search and rescue volunteers found Darlene Newman, 48, down a steep embankment approximately 300 to 300 feet north of her Fall Trail Lane home. The preliminary cause of death appeared to be hypothermia, Golmitz said.

Newman's car had previously been found wedged against a rock about 1,000 feet from the home. The sheriff's department said Newman likely was heading down her driveway when she slid off the road.

Newman had been described as at risk.

Girls D-III Semifinals: (3) Vanden 56, (2) El Dorado 36

SACRAMENTO, CA - The Vanden Vikings defeated the El Dorado Cougars 56-36 to earn a berth in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D-III Championship game at Power Balance Pavilion Friday night.

The Vikings who have won 14 straight games were led by Erimma Amarikwa who scored a team high 20 points. Lindsay Littlejohn had 19.

The loss snaps the Cougars 22 game winning streak. Samantha Reeder led El Dorado with 20 points.

Vanden will face Sacramento at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

Garridos confess to Dugard kidnapping, says attorney

PLACERVILLE, CA - The husband and wife charged with the kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard in 1991 have made full confessions to sheriff's detectives, according to Stephen Tapson, Nancy Garrido's attorney.

Dugard was present at the January meeting between Phillip and Nancy Garrido and sheriff's investigators when the defendants made their admissions, Tapson said. He said he couldn't say how Dugard reacted but his client was crying.

Tapson said the Garridos told them (investigators) "everything they wanted except they, they didn't produce any missing bodies, there's no other victims."

More than 30,000 without power in Sierra after snowfall

PLACER COUNTY, CA. - Thousands are without power in the Sierra region and several other counties after snow fall.

PG&E spokesperson Denny Boyles said there is no estimated time of restoration and that power may be out for the next couple of days. 

Contract crews and mutual aid crews were called in from various areas. The crews are having trouble accessing areas, causing delays in getting power back to the region.

D-I Girls Section Playoffs: (3) Oak Ridge 58, (11) Pleasant Grove 51

EL DORADO HILLS, CA - The defending section and state champion Oak Ridge Trojans defeated the Pleasant Grove Eagles 58-51 in the second round of the Girls D-I Sac Joaquin Section playoffs.

The Trojans (20-9) have now won six in row, they will face number two seeded Lincoln of Stockton in the D-I semifinals on Wednesday at Pacific University.
