El Dorado County mail theft investigation yields 7 arrests

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has made seven arrests in the past week in connection with multiple mail thefts reported in the county.

Lt. Tom Murdoch said deputies served two search warrants in San Joaquin Valley on April 16 and recovered stolen mail packages, checks, bank account information, Social Security numbers and other personal information that can be used to open accounts. It appeared there were between 30 and 50 victims whose mail had been reported stolen in El Dorado County.

Tracy residents Aman Izatt, 29, and Jarrod Izatt. 33 were arrested in connection to the thefts and booked into El Dorado County Jail. Murdoch said the pair were witnessed driving a white BMW while reportedly stealing mail in El Dorado County.

Then on April 21, deputies and detectives executed a search warrant in the 1600 block of Beals Road in Placerville. Officers uncovered a large amount of stolen mail and checks taken from possibly more than 100 victims, Murdoch said.

Officers also seized a stolen laptop computer, two firearms reported stolen in a Butte County burglary, and methamphetamine, Oxycodone pills and marijuana.

Arrested at the location were Mariah Schmucker, 23; Heston Schmucker, 38; Dawn Moore, 33, Kendall Moore, 44; and Michael Watts, 40. Murdoch said Schmucker is a validated skinhead gang member.

The suspects were booked into county jail and have since posted bail and been released.

Murdoch the investigation into the mail thefts continues.
