Woman suspected of DUI in Placerville pursuit

A Somerset woman that a sheriff's spokesperson said evaded a deputy during a pursuit for suspicion of driving under the influence was arrested Thursday night.

El Dorado County Sheriff's Office Lt. Tom Murdoch said the event began when a motorist flagged down the deputy who told him about a woman driving a white SUV in the wrong direction about 6 p.m. The citizen said the woman nearly caused a collision.

The deputy caught up to the SUV in question at Missouri Flat Road and Golden Center Drive. The SUV was stopped half on the sidewalk and half in bushes. People had stopped to help what looked like a traffic crash, Murdoch said.

However, as the deputy stopped to investigate, the SUV"s driver backed out onto Missouri Flat Road and nearly collided with a pedestrian, Murdoch said. The deputy reported the SUV headed northbound on Missouri Flat Road, almost hitting other cars.

The deputy activated his patrol unit lights and siren and pursued the SUV. The driver eventually stopped behind other vehicles at the signal light to the on-ramp to westbound Highway 50. The deputy approached the SUV and detained the driver, identified as 23-year-old Lauren Esposito.

Esposito was arrested and booked into El Dorado County Jail for DUI and resisting, obstructing, and delaying a peace officer, Murdoch said. She posted bail and was later released.
