Midtown galleries, retailers and studios inspire & delight during 2nd Saturday

A center for culture, creativity and vibrancy, Midtown Sacramento is an exciting 2nd Saturday Art Walk destination where local art galleries and other participating businesses collaborate to host a popular evening open house each month. Midtown guests will enjoy viewing art exhibits, participating in hands-on activities, sharing aspirations on a “wish wall,” meeting local artists, sampling food and wine, listening to live music and more.

Imagine. Explore. Discover. In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science, and wildlife treasures all year long. With summer nearing its end, many of the 30 members of Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) are featuring a number of festivals and fun events, a sampling of which includes the following:

(Woodland, CA) – Do you play Pokémon Go? Are you looking for PokéGyms, PokéStops or Pokémon to catch? Players of all ages are welcome to visit any of the Yolo County Library’s eight branches to find a variety of Pokémon.

Explore Yolo County’s towns and cities in which Yolo County Library branches reside while capturing Pokémon of all shapes and sizes and filling up the Pokédex. Load up on supplies by visiting the various PokéStops at the branches to collect more Poké Balls, razz berries, potions or eggs. Set a lure, seize the PokéGym or check out the library’s collection of Pokémon materials. All Yolo County Library branches are air-conditioned and have staff ready to share in the excitement and fun.

Showcasing the rich history and deep connection between agriculture and the railroad, the California State Railroad Museum Foundation is proud to continue its Farm-to-Fork partnership with the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau and offer The Cocktail Train on Sunday, September 25, 2016. The Foundation first presented the sell-out VIP experience in 2015, which was recognized as a finalist in Sunset Magazine’s Travel Awards competition in the “Best Train Experience” category.

What could be better than spending a relaxing summer afternoon enjoying an excursion train ride and a river boat cruise on the Sacramento River? Getting a special combo deal of course. California State Parks, the California State Railroad Museum & Foundation and Hornblower Cruises have teamed up to offer a special combo price for guests wishing to enjoy both uniquely Sacramento experiences on weekends during August 2016. The special ticket combo is being offered for the noon train ride and the 1:30 p.m. river cruise departure on the following weekends this summer: August 6-7, 13-14, 20-21, and 27-28.

The Breastfeeding Coalition of Yolo County is hosting a local event on August 6 as part of the “2016 Global Big Latch On”, a breastfeeding awareness celebration which takes place during World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7).

The Global Big Latch On is a worldwide peer support and community development event which aims to strengthen national and global support for breastfeeding and to improve the health of children and women around the world by:

• Providing support for communities to identify and grow opportunities to provide on-going breastfeeding support and promotion.
• Raising awareness of breastfeeding support and knowledge available locally and globally.
• Helping communities positively support breastfeeding in public places.
• Making breastfeeding a normal part of day-to-day life at a local community level.
• Increasing support for women who breastfeed by their partners, families and communities.
