Blue Shield kicking off groundbreaking health study in El Dorado Hills

Blue Shield of California is kicking off a groundbreaking study this month to learn more about effective ways to increase non-exercise physical activity.

During Heart Health Month roughly 240 Blue Shield employees will simultaneously walk and work on walkstations, which are treadmills with integrated computers and phones. This will happen twice a week over the course of 90 days, starting mid February.

Of the 240 employees about 100 employees at the company's El Dorado Hills campus are participating.

In addition to utilizing the walkstation, participants will be asked to complete surveys and take screenings prior to the study commencing, at the mid-point and end of the study. Researchers from UC Berkeley and Harvard will be studying the impact of different incentives on healthy behaviors.
