Get Back to Work: Take Care of Yourself

Get Back to Work: Take Care of Yourself

In my upcoming book, Get Back to Work: Smart and Savvy Real-World Strategies to Make your Next Career Move, the first chapter – Take Care of Yourself – is one of the most important steps for anyone who is looking for work. In this kickoff chapter, I share some great tips on staying fit – physically, mentally and financially.

During my year and half of looking for work, there were days when I wouldn’t eat well and barely have the gusto to get up.  It was a short period of time where I was going through a grieving process – the loss of my previous job and undeniable sense of low self-esteem from being unemployed – which I did not understand at the time. I finally got through all the downs and started to change some habits to create a better future for me and my family.

Here is an excerpt from the book:

Get Back to Work: The Checklist

Get Back to Work: Smart and Savvy Real-World Strategies to Make your Next Career Move my upcoming book that will be released later this summer – is something I never thought that I could, or would  write… but circumstances in my life changed that.  Back in 2009 when I was laid off my from job in corporate America after over a decade of working in staffing and recruiting, I thought I would jump right back into the workforce with a new job quickly.  During my year and half journey of unemployment and, more importantly, reinvention, I was also helping others to find work.  In 2010 I became involved with Active Job Seekers of America where I was president of the local chapter and then volunteer executive director, a position I still hold today.

Get Back to Work: Business Cards

Get Back to Work: Business Cards

In my upcoming book, Get Back to Work: Smart and Savvy Real-World Strategies to Make your Next Career Move, the fourth chapter – Business Cards – shares ideas about what to put on a business card and where to print them.

Here is an excerpt from the book:

Business cards (also referred to as networking cards) are not only for those employed by businesses. Anyone seeking a new opportunity should have a business card. They are a great networking tool, so have them ready and use them.

There are many different places where you can have business cards printed. Try www.vistaprint.com and www.gotprint.net on the Internet, or use a local print shop. You can also purchase business cards at an office supply store, a Wal-Mart, or a Target. Microsoft Word can even be used to create and print them.

Family Financial Cents: I LOVE Saving!

Family Financial Cents: I LOVE Saving!

It’s been said that, “money doesn’t buy happiness, but it does buy choices” and choices can often create a more comfortable life. With CHOICES in mind, if I were to ask you what your heart’s desire was right now, what would you say? What choices would you truly like to be able to make if finances were not a concern?

VIP Extends Deadline to Apply for 2014 Women in Technology Scholarship

In an effort to accommodate sustained interest in this year’s scholarship, Visionary Integration Professionals (VIP) has extended the deadline to apply for its 2014 Women in Technology Scholarship (WITS) program to March 10, 2014. Now in its seventh year, the program awards multiple scholarships of up to $2,500 per recipient to women pursuing a career in computer science, information technology (IT), management information systems or another related field.

“The number of women currently working in the technology industry is shockingly low,” said Jonna Ward, CEO of VIP. “The WITS program was created to break down those barriers and empower highly-motivated women to achieve their educational goals and progress confidently into their careers.”

Brunch and laptops bring hope for St. John's Shelter families

Brunch and laptops bring hope for St. John's Shelter families

As part of its annual community service efforts, Visionary Integration Professionals (VIP) prepared and served brunch to families at St. John’s Shelter Program for Women and Children yesterday morning. The company's CEO, Jonna Ward, was also on hand to present the shelter with 10 Dell Laptop Computers. The majority of the laptops will be given to graduates of the program who are now attending a community college or university, with the rest remaining in the shelter’s career center or loaned out to members of its after-care program.

“Visionary Integration Professionals’ extremely generous donation will make such a huge difference in the lives of the mothers we serve, supporting them as they work toward a very different future for their families,” said Michele Steeb, executive director for St. John’s Shelter Program for Women and Children. “We are so grateful.”
