Are Facebook Promotions Getting an Update?

Looks like new Facebook Promotions guidelines may soon be released.


According to AllFacebook, an email sent out by Facebook sales representatives outlines the new rules.  In contrast to the old guidelines where promotions needed to be explicitly approved, promotions will no longer need prior written approval from Facebook. Basically, in regards to promotions, sweepstakes and contests on Facebook:



  • They no longer require prior written Facebook approval to administer a promotion on Facebook.

  • They no longer require a minimum media spend investment to support the promotion.

It Pays to Pay: Brands Using Social Media

Fact: follower, friends and fans are fickle. At least according to a recent study.


Most consumers are now online in one way or another. New media adoption in the last year has risen by more than 48 percent. And, where customers go, brands follow. But creating a social media presence is easier said than done. The competition for followers is getting fierce, requiring brands to do more for their audiences than merely show up…they have to poney up.


Loyal followers have become the holy grail in social media settings. While they still enjoy expressing their affinity on the web–liking on Facebook, following on Twitter, and subscribing on RSS or by email–the average user embraces only 4.6 companies online.

Yelp for Restaurant Chains

Here’s a four letter word that makes many businesses cower and cry: YELP.


In the past several months, the 3fold team has helped two national  restaurant chains with their local marketing efforts. While there have been all sorts of fun things we’ve done for these brands (including working with fabulous food bloggers), one social tool stands out. Setting up, promoting and managing Yelp accounts has been incredibly fun, fascinating and frustrating all at the same time.

Only a year ago, finding a Google Wave invite in your inbox was a much coveted techie win. When I received mine, it was a little bit like Nerd Christmas had finally arrived. Breathlessly opening the email, I clicked on the link taking me to my shiny new social networking toy, ready to learn all its wonders. An hour later, I was still confused and, frankly, a bit bored.


What was Google Wave exactly? I’m not sure. Sort of a social network-collaboration tool-instant messenger-news feed on speed, I think. For its advocates, Wave’s strength was this lack of definition. For the rest of us, this wishy-washy concept was its greatest weakness. And, because of this general lack of understanding, Google Wave has been put to out to pasture.
